30 years on from being that excited little boy on the sofa, now I’m a 37 year old and virtually nothing has changed.
2007, the near year was seen in with two winners straight off, Sha Bihan at Fontwell, and Trompette at Ludlow.
Oceans Apart had been sent over to do his racing in America, finished 5th on his first run at Gulfstream. Dancing Bay came 2nd at Fontwell, and Rehearsal ended January winning at Ludlow.
Dancing Bay, was still improving all the time, would taste victory at Fakenham in a Beginners Chase in February. Two 2nd’s, Inherent at Ascot, Sha Bihan at Ascot would follow. We had a very poor start to March, not worth writing about, but things got better at the end with wins from Inherent and Eisteddfod.
April resulted in Eisteddfod coming home 3rd at Lingfield, and Inherent scoring another win. A run of four consecutive horses finishing in the frame Harlech Castle, Kadount, Sister Act, and Sha Bihan.
Penzance came 2nd in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr, while at the same meeting Monolith is 3rd. Tredegar comes 5th in the Esher Cup at Sandown. Over in America, Oceans Apart is only 10th at Keeneland.
April to May was magnificent with four winners in a row, Penzance, New Seeker, Kadount, and Monolith. Still in May, Dancing Bay would be 15th in the Chester Cup, New Seeker 5th in a Listed race, and Eisteddfod would come home in front at Leicester.
Into June, nothing much to shout about until the 23rd, when “Sove”s relative Sister Act was 3rd in a maiden.
We will pass over July completely.
In August Harlech Castle was 2nd and 1st, both times at Newbury. Eisteddfod made another journey over to France coming 4th at Deauville.
In September Harlech Castle was 3rd, Eisteddfod was back to winning ways at Sandown. New Seeker and Delightfully both finish 5th. Salsa Time is 2nd in her Maiden race.
October sees a win for Sister Act, making her far more valuable being Soviet Song’s sister.
November, just like July can be skipped over without a mention.
In December, Safebreaker would score at Southwell, Penzance takes 3rd at Cheltenham in a Grade 2, and follows it up with another 3rd in the Stan James Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day. That would be the final highlight from an up and down year.
Into 2008, I would carry on as a member of Elite Racing until February before taking a break until 2010.
January 2008, Delightfully came 3rd at Ayr, and Safebreaker 2nd at Southwell.
Trompette was 5th in a Grade 2 Mares Hurdle at Doncaster.
7th, 8th, and a pulled up to end the year.
Please read this blog chapter by chapter beginning from 2001 (use search engine) because the front page does not make sense if you read it as it is now for some reason. This blog is not finished and will continue when i find time to finish it.
